Finding God in the Fall Season
Fall has a way of slowing us down. The air turns crisp, leaves change color and fall, the days grow shorter, and harvest fills the fields and markets. This beautiful season has a lot to teach us about God and the rhythms of our spiritual lives.
Genesis 8:22: "While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease."
God is faithful through every season
The changing seasons are a promise kept. Every fall reminds us that God holds the world, and our lives, in His hands. Whatever season you're in, He hasn't changed.
The beauty of letting go
Trees release their leaves in fall, and it's one of the most beautiful sights of the year. Letting go isn't always loss. Sometimes it's preparation for new growth.
What might God be asking you to release this season? An old habit, a grudge, a worry, or control over something you were never meant to carry?
Ecclesiastes 3:1, 6: "To every thing there is a season… A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away."
Harvest and gratitude
Fall is harvest season, a time to gather what was planted and give thanks. Take time to notice what God has grown in your life this year.
Galatians 6:9: "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."
What lasts
Isaiah 40:8: "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever."
As leaves fade and fall, God's Word remains. It's a gentle reminder to build our lives on what lasts.
Ways to embrace the season
- Take a fall prayer walk and thank God for His creation.
- Write a harvest gratitude list: what has God grown in you this year?
- Light a candle during evening devotions.
- Wrap up in a blanket with your Bible on a cool evening.
- Ask God what He wants you to release.
A fall prayer
Lord, thank You for this season. Thank You that You are faithful through every change. Help me let go of what I'm not meant to carry, and give thanks for all You've grown in me. Let me build my life on Your Word that stands forever. Amen.
