Who Helps the Helper?

For servers, nurses, cashiers, teachers, first responders, pastors, caregivers and everyone whose job is other people. For when you’ve helped someone who didn’t want it, poured out all day and come home empty, or watched the people you love go without while you cared for strangers. You’re allowed to be tired. You’re not meant to carry it alone.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

🎒 Burden, Load, or His?

Galatians 6 says two things in five verses: “Carry each other’s burdens” (6:2) and “each one should carry their own load” (6:5). A burden is too heavy for one person. A load is someone’s own daily pack. Helpers burn out when they carry everybody’s load. For each weight, choose where it belongs.

🚪 “Do You Want to Get Well?”

Jesus asked a man who’d been sick for 38 years that exact question (John 5:6). Not everyone wants the help you’re offering, and that is not a verdict on you. Jesus didn’t make anyone take it either.

🏠 Everyone Else First

Patient with every customer, short with your kids. Caring for everyone’s mother but your own. Fixing strangers’ emergencies while your family’s needs are bigger than your paycheck, your time or your reach. Here’s what’s true, and what’s next.

Guilt or conviction?

Guilt is vague, crushing and about who you are. Conviction is specific, hopeful and comes with a next step. Tap which voice each one is.

“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.” 2 Corinthians 7:10 (NIV)

Your Jethro plan

Moses was judging every case himself, morning to night. His father-in-law said, “You will only wear yourselves out… you cannot handle it alone” (Exodus 18:18). Then he helped him make a plan. Make yours. Saved on this phone.

When you can’t help your own

From the cross, in agony, Jesus looked at His mother and gave her care to John: “Here is your son” (John 19:26–27). He didn’t do it all Himself. He made sure she was held. Sometimes love isn’t doing everything. It’s making sure someone is there.

Scripture calls us to care for our families (1 Timothy 5:8). It was never meant to say you failed because you can’t fix everything alone. The early church shared what it had so no one went without (Acts 4:34–35).

Who could help carry some of this?

At the front door

Before you walk in: take off the uniform in your mind, pray one sentence, and walk in with one question for the people inside (“What was the best part of your day?”). Want words for it? Leave it at the door →

😤 “Can I Speak to Your Manager?”

Eight moments every helper knows. Four answers each: the flesh, the passive-aggressive, the doormat, and the holy one. Holy is not the same as doormat.

🧺 Let Someone Wash Your Feet

When Jesus knelt to wash Peter’s feet, Peter refused. Jesus said, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me” (John 13:8). Receiving is part of following Him, even for the ones who always give.

And rest

The disciples came back from serving so busy they couldn’t even eat. Jesus said, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest” (Mark 6:31). The crowd was still there. He took them anyway. Holy Tired →
