Marriage Devotional: Growing Old Together
A marriage devotional on a lifetime of faithfulness.
There's something beautiful about an older couple still holding hands. Wrinkled fingers, gray hair, decades of stories between them. That kind of love doesn't happen by accident. It's built one faithful day at a time.
Today's Scripture
Isaiah 46:4: "And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you."
Proverbs 16:31: "The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness."
Psalm 92:14: "They shall still bring forth fruit in old age."
God carries you the whole way
God doesn't just carry you through the wedding and the early years. He promises to carry you to old age. The same faithfulness that brought you together will hold you together.
Building a marriage that lasts
Choose faithfulness daily. Long marriages are made of thousands of small decisions to stay kind, stay loyal, and stay present.
Keep growing together. Learn new things, try new adventures, and keep your faith fresh.
Forgive often. No marriage lasts decades without a lot of grace.
Stay friends. The couples who last often say their spouse is their best friend.
Keep bearing fruit. Your later years can be your most fruitful: mentoring, praying, and passing on faith to grandchildren.
Reflect
- What do I want our marriage to look like in 30 years?
- What daily habit today will help us get there?
- What older couple inspires us, and what can we learn from them?
A legacy worth leaving
Your children and grandchildren will learn about God's faithfulness by watching yours. A long, loving marriage is one of the most powerful testimonies you can give.
Today's prayer
Lord, You have promised to carry us even to old age. Help us love each other faithfully every day between now and then. Let our marriage bear fruit for generations, and let us grow old together in You. Amen.
