Money Wisdom for Single Parents
Single parents carry a heavy load: one income, one set of hands, and countless needs. If money feels tight and the pressure feels constant, know this: God sees you, and He cares about every bill and every need in your home.
God cares for single-parent families
Psalm 68:5: "A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation."
Philippians 4:19: "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
The widow's jar of oil
In 2 Kings 4, a widowed mother faced losing her sons to creditors. All she had was a small jar of oil. God multiplied it to fill every container she could borrow, enough to pay her debts and live on. God specializes in multiplying little.
Practical money wisdom
1. Build a simple budget. List income, essentials, and debts. Clarity reduces anxiety.
2. Prioritize essentials. Housing, utilities, food, transportation, and childcare come first.
3. Build a small emergency fund, even a little at a time.
4. Keep good records of child support payments and expenses, if they apply to your situation.
5. Use available help without shame. Look into community assistance programs, school meal programs, childcare assistance, and church benevolence funds.
6. Build a support network. Trade childcare with other parents, join a church small group, and let people help.
7. Teach your kids. Age-appropriate honesty about money can build teamwork and gratitude.
8. Plan for the future when you can, including life insurance and a will to protect your kids.
Take care of yourself
Financial stress can be exhausting. Protect a little rest, ask for help, and remember that your worth isn't measured by your bank account.

A prayer
Lord, You see everything I'm carrying. Provide for my family. Multiply what little I have. Give me wisdom, help from others, and peace in the waiting. Thank You for being a Father to my children. Amen.
