A New Year Prayer for Nurses, Doctors, and Caregivers
Happy New Year! A new year in healthcare often brings new residents, new policies, new charting systems, and new challenges. Whatever this year holds, you don't walk into it alone. Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us that God's "compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."
Here's a prayer you can pray over your work for the year ahead.
A New Year Prayer for Nurses, Doctors, and Caregivers
Faithful God,
Thank You for carrying me through last year. You know every hard shift, every loss, every small victory, and every tear no one else saw. Thank You for never leaving me.
As I step into this new year, I give You my work. Let every shift be an offering to You.
For my mind: Give me wisdom, sharp judgment, and the humility to ask for help when I need it.
For my hands: Make them skilled, gentle, and safe.
For my heart: Keep it soft. Guard me from bitterness and burnout. Fill me with fresh compassion every morning.
For my patients: Bring healing, comfort, and peace. Let them feel seen and valued in my care.
For my coworkers: Make our team a place of kindness, unity, and support.
For my family: Protect them while I'm at work, and help me be present when I'm home.
For my rest: Teach me to stop without guilt, and restore me body and soul.
Whatever this year brings, help me remember that I am Yours, called by name, and held in Your hands. In Jesus' name, amen.
Set Spiritual Goals, Not Just Professional Ones
Healthcare workers set lots of goals: certifications, degrees, promotions. This year, consider adding a few spiritual goals too:
- Read through one Gospel slowly this month
- Pray for one coworker by name every week
- Protect one Sabbath day off each week
- Join or start a prayer group at work
