When Those Who Hurt You Seem to Prosper: Trusting God Through Unfair Seasons

When It Hurts to Watch Others Prosper: What God Taught Me in That Season

There are seasons in life that don’t just stretch you — they expose you. They expose your wounds, your questions, your disappointments, and the quiet places in your heart you thought were healed.

For me, one of the hardest seasons was watching people who hurt me… win.

People who:

  • Lied on me

  • Belittled me

  • Took advantage of my kindness

  • Walked away without apology

  • Benefited from my downfall

  • Or simply didn’t care about the damage they caused

And yet somehow, their life looked like it was flourishing while mine felt like it was stuck in recovery mode.

I remember thinking, “God… how is this fair? How do I reconcile what I’m seeing with what You promised?”

If you’ve ever been there, this is for you.

1. God Had to Teach Me That My Healing Was More Urgent Than Their Consequences

I used to think justice meant God would deal with them first. But He showed me something deeper:

He wanted to deal with me first.

Not because I was wrong. Not because I deserved the pain. But because the wound they left behind was too valuable to leave unattended.

God wasn’t ignoring what they did. He was prioritizing what it did to me.

He was tending to:

  • My trust

  • My identity

  • My confidence

  • My peace

  • My ability to love again

  • My ability to dream again

Their “prosperity” wasn’t God rewarding them. It was God focusing on me.

2. I Had to Learn That What Looks Like Prosperity Isn’t Always Peace

Social media will fool you. People can look blessed and be broken. They can look successful and be spiritually starving. They can look elevated and be empty.

God reminded me:

“Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Some of the people I envied were actually running from conviction. Some were numbing their guilt with accomplishments. Some were building platforms on shaky foundations.

And some were simply in a temporary season of grace — not approval.

God wasn’t overlooking their actions. He was giving them time to repent.

And honestly… I’m grateful He gave me time when I needed it too.

3. God Showed Me That Comparison Was Quietly Killing My Joy

I didn’t realize how much energy I was wasting watching them.

Every time I checked their page… Every time I replayed what they did… Every time I measured my progress against theirs…

I was feeding a wound God was trying to close.

He whispered to my heart:

“Daughter, you cannot heal while staring at what hurt you.”

That one hit deep.

I had to unfollow some people. I had to stop checking up on them. I had to stop rehearsing the story. I had to stop letting their life dictate my emotions.

My healing required boundaries. My peace required distance. My growth required focus.

4. God Reminded Me That His Word Over My Life Cannot Be Interrupted

Isaiah 55:11 became personal to me:

“My word will not return to Me void.”

That meant:

  • No betrayal could cancel it

  • No lie could delay it

  • No enemy could block it

  • No season could reverse it

  • No person could prosper against it

Their success didn’t threaten my destiny. Their progress didn’t pause my promise. Their season didn’t shrink my calling.

God’s word over my life was still active. Still alive. Still unfolding.

Even when I couldn’t see it.

5. The Hardest Part: Trusting God With the Part of the Story I Wanted to Control

I wanted closure. I wanted accountability. I wanted justice. I wanted the truth to come out. I wanted God to show everyone what really happened.

But God wanted something different:

He wanted my heart.

He wanted me healed, not bitter. Restored, not resentful. Strengthened, not suspicious. Focused, not distracted. Whole, not wounded.

And that required surrender.

Not the cute kind. Not the Sunday‑morning kind. The kind where you cry and say:

“Lord, I don’t understand this, but I trust You anyway.”

That’s where everything shifted.

6. Healing Didn’t Happen Overnight — But It Happened

Little by little, God started restoring me:

  • My joy came back

  • My confidence returned

  • My creativity woke up

  • My peace settled in

  • My purpose sharpened

  • My heart softened

And one day, I realized something:

I wasn’t watching them anymore. I wasn’t comparing anymore. I wasn’t hurting anymore. I wasn’t waiting for justice anymore.

I was too busy thriving.

God didn’t just heal me — He grew me into someone who no longer needed to see their downfall to feel whole.

That’s freedom.

Final Word: God Sees. God Knows. God Will Handle It.

If you’re in that season right now — the season where the people who hurt you seem to be winning — hear me:

You are not forgotten. You are not overlooked. You are not behind. You are not losing.

God is working in the dark on things you will celebrate in the light.

And when He restores you, it will be so complete, so undeniable, so God‑written, that you’ll look back and say:

“Their prosperity was never my problem. My healing was always His priority.”
