Marriage Devotional: Waiting on God Together
A marriage devotional for seasons of waiting.
Waiting for a child. Waiting for a job. Waiting for healing, a home, or a breakthrough. Waiting is hard on its own. Waiting together as a couple brings its own challenges, and its own chance to grow closer.
Today's Scripture
Psalm 27:14: "Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD."
Isaiah 40:31: "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
Couples who waited
Abraham and Sarah waited decades for a promised son. Zechariah and Elizabeth prayed for a child for years; Scripture says they were "both righteous before God" (Luke 1:6), and still they waited. Their waiting wasn't punishment. God was writing a bigger story.
How waiting can strain a marriage
- One spouse may be hopeful while the other is discouraged.
- Disappointment can turn into blame.
- Life can feel "on hold," and joy fades.
How to wait well together
Pray together honestly. Bring your hopes and your frustrations.
Carry each other's hope. On days one of you can't believe, let the other believe for both.
Don't put life on pause. Keep dating, laughing, and serving while you wait.
Remember past faithfulness. Recall times God came through before.

Reflect
- What are we waiting for right now?
- How is this season affecting how we treat each other?
- What can we enjoy together, even while we wait?
Today's prayer
Lord, we're waiting on You. Strengthen our hearts. Keep us close to each other instead of pulling apart. Help us trust Your timing and find joy in this season. Amen.
