Saying Yes to God When It’s Hard: A Devotional on Obedience
Sometimes God asks you to do things that don’t make sense:
-
Apologize first
-
Walk away from a relationship
-
Start something new
-
Leave something familiar
-
Give when you feel stretched
-
Step out when you feel unqualified
Obedience often feels uncomfortable before it feels rewarding.
“If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.” — Isaiah 1:19
Blessing follows obedience — not the other way around.
1. Obedience Often Requires Letting Go
In real life, obedience looks like:
-
Deleting the number you know isn’t good for you
-
Turning down an opportunity that doesn’t align with your spirit
-
Saying no to what drains you
-
Saying yes to what grows you
Obedience is trust in action.
2. Obedience Doesn’t Always Feel Good at First
Sometimes you obey God and feel:
-
Lonely
-
Unsure
-
Stretched
-
Misunderstood
But obedience plants seeds that grow into future blessings.
3. Obedience Positions You for God’s Best
God will never ask you to release something without preparing something better.
Try this today:
Ask God, “What are You asking me to say yes to?”
Prayer:
Lord, give me the courage to obey You even when it’s hard. Help me trust that Your way is always better. Amen.
Reflection Question:
What step of obedience have you been avoiding?
