Overcoming Financial Anxiety With Faith
Lying awake doing math in your head. Dreading the mailbox. Feeling your chest tighten when you check your bank account. Financial anxiety is incredibly common, and incredibly heavy. Jesus speaks directly to it.
Jesus on worry
Matthew 6:25–26: "Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on… Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?"
Matthew 6:33–34: "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow."
Jesus isn't dismissing real needs. He's reminding us that our Father knows them, and cares.
God provides
Philippians 4:19: "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
Faith and action together
Trusting God doesn't mean ignoring your finances. Often, facing the numbers with God's help is what brings peace.
Practical steps
1. Pray honestly. Tell God exactly what you're afraid of (Philippians 4:6).
2. Face the numbers. Write down income, bills, and debts. Fear often grows in the unknown.
3. Make a plan. Even a simple budget gives you a sense of direction.
4. Focus on today. "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof" (Matthew 6:34). Handle today's step.
5. Practice gratitude. List what God has already provided.
6. Limit comparison and doom-scrolling.
7. Ask for help. Talk to a trusted friend, your church, or a financial counselor.
8. Care for your health. If anxiety affects your sleep, appetite, or daily life, talk to your doctor.
Remember past provision
Make a list of times God provided in the past. Read it when fear rises. Our Never Failed Me Yet Collection was made for exactly that kind of remembering.
Keep a reminder of peace close with our Keep Calm & Trust God Collection, and journal your plan and prayers in a journal.
A prayer
Lord, I'm anxious about money. You know every bill and every need. Help me trust You as my provider, face my finances with wisdom, and take one step at a time. Replace my fear with Your peace. Amen.
