Prayers for a New Job
Looking for a new job, or starting one, can stir up hope, anxiety, excitement, and fear all at once. Whether you're searching after a layoff, hoping for a better fit, or stepping into a new role, you can bring every part of the process to God. Here are prayers for each step.
Proverbs 16:3: "Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established."
Before you apply
Lord, I commit my job search to You. Lead me to the right openings. Help me present my skills honestly and well. Open the doors You want open and close the ones You don't. Amen.
Before an interview
James 1:5: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God… and it shall be given him."
Father, calm my nerves. Give me clear thinking and the right words. Help me be myself, show what I can offer, and connect with the people I meet. Let Your favor go before me. Whatever happens, I trust You. Amen.
While you wait
Lord, waiting is hard. Help me trust Your timing. Give me peace while I wait for answers, and help me keep doing today's work faithfully. If this door closes, help me believe a better one is coming. Amen.
When you get rejected
Father, this hurt. Remind me my worth isn't in a job offer. Help me learn what I can, let go of what I can't control, and keep going. You haven't forgotten me. Amen.
When choosing between offers
Lord, I need wisdom. Show me which path fits Your plans for me and my family. Help me weigh more than the paycheck: the people, the values, the impact on my home. Give me peace about the right decision. Amen.
On your first day
Colossians 3:23: "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men."
Lord, go with me into this new place. Help me learn quickly, build good relationships, and work with excellence and integrity. Let me be a light here. Establish the work of my hands (Psalm 90:17). Amen.
For anyone currently unemployed
Father, provide for my needs while I search. Protect my heart from discouragement. Remind me that You are my provider, not my employer. Amen.
Bring your faith to work
Start your new job with a reminder of who you work for: a Christian travel mug for your desk, or a Christian watch as a quiet daily reminder that your time belongs to God.
