Prayers for Your Children by Age and Stage
Every stage of parenting brings new joys, new worries, and new things to pray about. Here are Scripture-based prayers for your children at every age, from the crib to the day they have kids of their own.
Isaiah 54:13: "And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children."
Babies
Lord, thank You for this precious gift. Protect their tiny body. Give them healthy growth, peaceful sleep, and a sense of safety and love. Surround them with Your presence from their very first days. And give me strength for the sleepless nights. Amen.
Toddlers and preschoolers
Father, guard my little one as they explore the world. Give them curiosity, kindness, and a growing love for You. Help me teach them patiently and show them who You are through my words and actions. Protect them from harm, and plant Your Word in their hearts early. Amen.
School-age kids
Lord, go with my child to school each day. Give them wisdom to learn, courage to try hard things, and kindness toward others. Lead them to good friends. Protect them from bullying, and help them stand up for what's right. Let them know they are Yours. Amen.
Preteens
Father, as my child's body and emotions change, give them confidence in who You made them to be. Protect their minds from harmful content and their hearts from comparison. Keep our communication open, and help them turn to You and to me when life feels confusing. Amen.
Teenagers
Lord, guide my teenager through the pressures they face. Give them wisdom in their choices, strength to resist temptation, and godly friends. Protect them on the road, online, and everywhere they go. Let their faith become their own. Help me know when to hold on and when to let go. Amen.
Young adults leaving home
Father, as my child steps into independence, go with them. Lead them to a church family, wise mentors, and good friends. Guide their decisions about school, work, money, and relationships. Keep them close to You, even when they're far from me. Amen.
Adult children
3 John 1:4: "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth."
Lord, my child is grown, but they'll always be my child. Bless their work, their marriage, their children, and their walk with You. Where they've wandered, draw them back. Help me be a source of love, wisdom, and encouragement, not control. Amen.
For every age
Lord, help my children know they are loved by You, chosen, and called by name. Protect them, guide them, and let them walk in Your truth all their days. Amen.
Tips for praying for your kids
- Pray over them while they sleep. Lay a hand on their head or their door.
- Ask them how you can pray for them, then follow up.
- Pray with them at bedtime. A Christian night light can become part of that ritual.
- Speak blessing over them often. Our kids' Christian apparel helps them carry those truths with them.
