Short prayers for someone you love who is incarcerated. Pray them daily, write one in a letter, or pray them together on a call.

For safety

“Lord, protect my loved one’s body, mind and heart. Keep them from violence and despair. Be their refuge.” (Psalm 91:1–2)

For mercy

“As You were with Joseph in prison and showed him mercy, be with my loved one, and show them mercy.” (Genesis 39:21)

For their heart

“Draw them to Yourself. Let them know they are not beyond Your reach or Your love.” (Luke 15:20)

For good people

“Send chaplains, believers and good influences into their path. Protect them from people who would pull them down.” (Proverbs 13:20)

For repentance and change

“Where they did wrong, give them true sorrow and real change. Make them a new creation.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

For anyone they hurt

“Comfort and heal every person harmed. Bring them justice and peace.” (Psalm 34:18)

For the future

“Prepare a real fresh start for when they come home: work, housing, community and wisdom.” (Isaiah 43:19)

For me

“And Lord, hold me too. Give me strength, rest and people who carry this with me.” (Matthew 11:28)
