Why the Universe Isn’t God: A Testimony of Discernment, Identity, and the True Source of Power

The Season I Started Saying “The Universe” Instead of “God”
I didn’t mean to drift. I didn’t wake up one day and decide to replace God with the universe.
It happened slowly.
I started saying things like:
-
“The universe is aligning things for me.”
-
“The universe is sending me signs.”
-
“The universe is protecting me.”
-
“The universe is responding to my energy.”
It sounded spiritual. It sounded harmless. It sounded deep.
But it wasn’t biblical.
One day, while journaling, I wrote:
“Thank you, universe…”
And the Holy Spirit interrupted me:
“Why are you thanking creation for what the Creator did?”
I froze.
Why the Universe Is Not God
1. The universe is created. God is the Creator.
Creation cannot replace the One who spoke it into existence.
2. The universe has no will. God does.
The universe cannot:
-
love you
-
guide you
-
protect you
-
forgive you
-
redeem you
-
speak to you
-
save you
Only God can.
3. The universe has no personality. God is personal.
You cannot have a relationship with the universe. You can only project onto it.
4. The universe cannot hear prayer.
It cannot respond. It cannot intervene. It cannot orchestrate your life.
Only God can.
Why People Replace God With “The Universe”
Because “the universe” feels:
-
less demanding
-
less convicting
-
less personal
-
less authoritative
-
less intrusive
-
less moral
It gives you spirituality without accountability.
But it also gives you:
-
no comfort
-
no direction
-
no forgiveness
-
no relationship
-
no salvation
It’s empty.
What God Taught Me
1. Creation points to God — it is not God.
The beauty of the universe is meant to lead you to worship, not replace the One who made it.
2. God is not vague.
He is specific. Intentional. Relational.
3. God wants intimacy, not distance.
Calling Him “the universe” keeps Him impersonal.
4. God is jealous for your heart.
Not in insecurity — in love.
What You Can Take From This
The universe is beautiful. But it is not God.
Don’t give creation the credit that belongs to the Creator.
