Bible Verses for Moms: Encouragement for Every Season
Motherhood is beautiful, and it is relentless. Some days you feel like you're pouring out more than you have. Some nights you lie awake worrying about a child who's sick, struggling, or far from God. Whether you're a new mom, a mom of teens, a stepmom, a grandmother, or a spiritual mother to others, these verses are for you.
For the tired days
- Isaiah 40:29: "He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength."
- Isaiah 40:31: "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
- 2 Corinthians 12:9: "My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness."
- Galatians 6:9: "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."
Galatians 6:9 is for the mom repeating the same lesson for the hundredth time, packing the same lunches, praying the same prayers. It isn't wasted. A harvest is coming.
For when you feel unseen
- Isaiah 40:11: "He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young."
- Isaiah 66:13: "As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you."
- Luke 2:19: "But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart."
Look at Isaiah 40:11 again. God carries the little lambs, and He "gently leads" the mothers. He knows you can't move at the same pace as everyone else right now, and He's not rushing you.
For raising your children
- Proverbs 22:6: "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
- Psalm 127:3: "Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward."
- 1 Samuel 1:27: "For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him."
For the woman God is shaping you to be
- Proverbs 31:25: "Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come."
- Proverbs 31:26: "She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness."
- Proverbs 31:28: "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her."
- Philippians 1:6: "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."
Proverbs 31 isn't a checklist to make you feel behind. It's a portrait of a woman clothed in strength and laughing at the future, because her confidence is in God. And Philippians 1:6 reminds you that He's not finished with you, or with your kids.
Small ways to refill your cup
Five minutes before the house wakes up. One verse and a cup of coffee in a mug that reminds you who you are. That's enough.
Pray over them while they sleep. Lay a hand on their door or their head and pray one of these verses over them.
Let yourself be celebrated. If you're shopping for a mom in your life, our Christian Mother's Day gifts and women's Christian apparel are a way to tell her she's seen.
A prayer for moms
Lord, You gently lead those who are raising little ones and big ones. Lead me gently today. Give me strength when I'm empty, patience when I'm stretched, and wisdom when I don't know what to do. Cover my children with Your protection and draw their hearts to You. Thank You for trusting me with them. In Jesus' name, amen.
