The Spiritual Cost of Always Being Accessible: A Testimony of Boundaries, Burnout, and God-Led Rest
The Exhaustion I Thought Was Normal
I used to respond to:
-
every text
-
every call
-
every DM
-
every crisis
-
every request
-
every need
Immediately.
I thought being accessible made me loving. I thought being available made me dependable. I thought saying yes made me Christlike.
But it made me:
-
drained
-
resentful
-
overwhelmed
-
spiritually empty
-
emotionally exhausted
One day, God whispered:
“You’re giving people access to places I never gave them permission to enter.”
And it changed everything.
Why Constant Accessibility Is Spiritually Dangerous
1. It makes you people’s source instead of God.
You become their first call instead of Him.
2. It drains your emotional capacity.
You can’t pour from an empty spirit.
3. It creates entitlement in others.
People expect instant access to you.
4. It destroys your boundaries.
You lose control of your time and energy.
5. It silences God’s voice.
Noise kills intimacy.
What God Taught Me
1. Even Jesus withdrew.
If Jesus needed boundaries, so do you.
“Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” — Luke 5:16
2. Saying no is spiritual maturity.
No protects your yes.
3. You are not the Savior.
You can help people, but you cannot heal them.
4. Rest is obedience.
Burnout is not a badge of honor.
5. Boundaries are biblical.
Boundaries protect your calling.
What You Can Take From This
You don’t have to be accessible to everyone. You don’t have to respond instantly. You don’t have to carry every burden.
You are human — and God designed you with limits.
Honor them.
