Prayers for Your Husband
One of the greatest gifts you can give your husband is your prayers. Praying for him regularly invites God's strength, protection, and wisdom into his life, and it often softens and deepens your own heart toward him too. Here are eight Scripture-based prayers you can pray, word for word or in your own words.
1. For his heart and faith
Psalm 1:2–3: "But his delight is in the law of the LORD… And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water."
Lord, draw my husband close to You. Give him a hunger for Your Word and a heart that delights in You. Plant him deep like a tree by the water, strong and fruitful in every season. Amen.
2. For his work
Father, bless the work of my husband's hands (Psalm 90:17). Give him wisdom, favor, integrity, and peace at work. When it's stressful, remind him his worth isn't in his paycheck. Provide for our family through him and beyond him. Amen.
3. For protection
Lord, be his refuge and fortress (Psalm 91:2). Protect him as he goes out and comes in, on the road, at work, and everywhere he goes. Guard his body, mind, and spirit. Amen.
4. Against temptation
Father, guard my husband's eyes, thoughts, and heart. When temptation comes, show him the way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13). Surround him with godly friends who sharpen him. Keep him faithful to You and to our marriage. Amen.
5. For his health
Lord, strengthen my husband's body and give him rest. Heal what needs healing. Help him care for himself well and seek help when he needs it. Amen.
6. For his leadership and fatherhood
Psalm 112:1: "Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments."
Father, give my husband wisdom to lead our home with love and humility. Help him be patient, present, and gentle with our children. Let our kids see You in him. Amen.
7. For his emotions and burdens
Lord, many men carry stress silently. Give my husband safe places to share his heart, including with me. Lift the weights he carries and fill him with Your peace. Amen.
8. For our marriage
Lord, be the third strand in our cord (Ecclesiastes 4:12). Help us love each other well, forgive quickly, and grow closer every year. Help me be the wife he needs, and help him love me as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25). Amen.
Tips for praying for your husband
- Pick one prayer a day, rotating through the week.
- Ask him, "How can I pray for you this week?"
- Pray over his side of the bed or his pillow before he comes home. A faith-filled pillow can be a sweet reminder.
- Tell him you prayed. It can mean more than you know.
Bless him with a reminder of who he is from our men's Christian apparel. And husbands, see our companion article: Prayers for Your Wife.
