Prayers for Your Wife

Praying for your wife is one of the most loving things you can do for her and for your marriage. Prayer invites God into her heart, her days, and her burdens, and it changes your heart toward her too. Here are eight Scripture-based prayers you can pray, word for word or in your own words.

1. For her identity

Proverbs 31:10: "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies."

Lord, help my wife know how deeply she is loved by You and by me. When she feels not enough, remind her she is Your daughter, chosen and precious. Amen.

2. For her strength and rest

Father, my wife carries so much, often more than I see. Give her strength for each day and true rest at night. Show me how to lighten her load. Let her find refreshment in You (Matthew 11:28). Amen.

3. For her health

Lord, protect my wife's body, mind, and heart. Heal what needs healing. Help her care for herself without guilt, and help me support her well. Amen.

4. For her faith

Lord, draw my wife closer to You. Speak to her through Your Word. Let her faith grow deep roots, and give her joy in her walk with You. Amen.

5. For her as a mother

Father, give my wife patience, wisdom, and grace as she cares for our children. On the hard days, remind her that she's doing holy work. Help me be a true partner in raising them. Amen.

6. For her friendships

Lord, surround my wife with godly friends who encourage her, pray with her, and make her laugh. Guard her from loneliness. Amen.

7. For her purpose and dreams

Proverbs 31:26: "She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness."

Father, You've given my wife gifts, wisdom, and dreams. Open doors for her to use them. Help me cheer her on and make room for her to flourish. Amen.

8. For our marriage

Ephesians 5:25: "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it."

Lord, help me love my wife the way Christ loves the church: sacrificially, patiently, and faithfully. Give me understanding, help me honor her (1 Peter 3:7), and make our marriage a place of safety and joy. Amen.

Tips for praying for your wife

  • Ask her, "How can I pray for you this week?" and then follow up.
  • Pray over her with your hand on her shoulder. Many wives find it deeply meaningful.
  • Pray before hard conversations.
  • Write a prayer for her and leave it on her pillow or in her car.

Light a Christian candle and pray together in the evening, or bless her with something from our women's Christian apparel collection. Wives, see the companion article: Prayers for Your Husband.
