Serving God Together: Ministry as a Married Couple

Marriage isn't only about the two of you. God often joins two people together so they can do more for His kingdom as a team than they could alone.

A biblical example: Priscilla and Aquila

This married couple appears six times in the New Testament, and they're almost always mentioned together. They worked side by side as tentmakers with Paul (Acts 18:2–3). They hosted a church in their home (1 Corinthians 16:19). They took a gifted preacher named Apollos aside and "expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly" (Acts 18:26). Paul called them "my helpers in Christ Jesus" who "laid down their own necks" for him (Romans 16:3–4).

Their marriage was a ministry.

Why serve together?

  • It gives you a shared purpose beyond your household.
  • You see each other's gifts in action, which builds respect.
  • It shows your children that faith is lived, not just talked about.
  • Your differences become strengths when combined.

Ways to serve as a couple

Open your home. Host a small group, Bible study, or Sunday dinner for single friends or college students.

Mentor a younger couple. Share what you've learned, including your mistakes.

Serve at church together. Greeting, kids' ministry, worship team, or hospitality.

Serve your community. Food banks, shelters, prison ministry, or helping elderly neighbors.

Give together. Decide as a couple which ministries to support.

Share your faith together. Your clothing can even start conversations. Our designs like the Power Couple Powered by Him tee often open doors to talk about Jesus.

Keep balance

Ministry should flow from a healthy marriage, not replace it. If serving is crowding out time with each other or with God, scale back.

1 Peter 4:10: "As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."

A prayer for serving together

Lord, use our marriage for Your kingdom. Show us where You want us to serve together. Combine our gifts and let our home be a place where others meet You. Amen.
