The Proverbs 31 Wife in Modern Marriage
Many women read Proverbs 31 and feel exhausted. She rises before dawn, runs a business, buys land, sews, feeds everyone, and still has time to help the poor. Who can keep up?
Here's the encouraging truth: Proverbs 31 is a portrait, not a to-do list. It describes a life shaped over years by wisdom and faith, not a standard to meet by Friday.
The heart of the passage
Proverbs 31:10: "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies."
Proverbs 31:30: "Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised."
The chapter's conclusion tells us her secret. It isn't her schedule. It's her reverence for God.
What she looks like today
She is trustworthy. "The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her" (31:11). Faithfulness and honesty build a safe home.
She does him good. Verse 12 says she does him "good and not evil all the days of her life." Encouragement, prayer, and kindness are powerful.
She works with purpose. She's industrious and creative, whether that's in a career, a business, a ministry, or the home.
She is strong and unafraid. "Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come" (31:25).
She speaks with wisdom and kindness (31:26).
She is generous. She reaches out her hands to the needy (31:20).
Give yourself grace
You don't have to do it all. Ask God which one area He wants to grow in you this season. And husbands, notice verse 28: "her husband also, and he praiseth her." Speak your praise out loud.

A prayer for wives
Lord, make me a woman who fears You above all else. Clothe me with strength and dignity. Help me do my husband good all the days of my life, and give me grace when I fall short. Amen.
