A Devotional for Students Before a Big Test

James 1:5: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

This is a short one, because you have a test to get to. Take two minutes. Breathe. Read this slowly.

You can ask for wisdom

God promises to give wisdom generously when you ask, and He won't scold you for needing it. You studied. You prepared as best you could. Now invite Him into the room with you.

You have a sound mind

2 Timothy 1:7: "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

Nervousness is normal, but fear doesn't get the final word. God has given you a sound mind: clear, steady, and capable.

He is with you

Isaiah 41:10: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee."

You won't be alone in that room. He'll be there for every question.

Your worth isn't on the answer sheet

Do your best. Then remember: no grade can change how much God loves you or who you are to Him. You're His child before the test and after it, no matter the score.

A breath prayer for the test

When you feel panic rising, take a slow breath in and say silently, "Be still," then breathe out slowly, "and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10). Repeat three times. Then read the question again.

Quick test-day tips

  • Get some sleep and eat something.
  • Drink water. Keep a water bottle with you.
  • Skip hard questions and come back to them.
  • Pack peace. A faith-message backpack can be a small reminder that God goes with you.

Pray

Lord, I'm asking for wisdom like You promised. Calm my nerves and clear my mind. Help me remember what I studied and think clearly. Thank You that You're with me in that room. Whatever the result, I'm Yours. Amen.
