Do It Afraid: A Devotional on Courage and Faith

Fear has a way of showing up right when you’re about to grow. You get the opportunity — and suddenly doubt whispers. You feel the nudge — and suddenly insecurity rises. You sense God calling you — and suddenly fear says, “Not you.”

But courage isn’t about feeling fearless. Courage is about trusting God more than your fear.

“Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9

God doesn’t tell you to be courageous alone — He goes with you.

1. Courage Looks Ordinary in Real Life

In everyday moments, courage looks like:

  • Applying for the job you think you’re underqualified for

  • Starting the business with the little you have

  • Saying “yes” to healing

  • Setting a boundary

  • Walking away from what drains you

  • Speaking up when your voice shakes

Courage is obedience in motion.

2. Fear Doesn’t Mean You’re Going the Wrong Way

Sometimes fear shows up because you’re stepping into something new — not because you’re stepping into something wrong.

Growth feels uncomfortable before it feels rewarding.

3. God Gives Strength as You Move, Not Before

You won’t feel fully ready. You won’t feel fully confident. You won’t feel fully equipped.

But God strengthens you as you go.

Try this today:

Take one small step toward the thing you’ve been afraid to do.

Prayer:

Lord, give me courage to move even when I feel afraid. Remind me that You go with me and strengthen me every step of the way. Amen.

Reflection Question:

What step of courage is God asking you to take?
