Finding God in the Middle of the Storm: A Devotional for Hard Seasons
Some seasons hit without warning — a job loss, a breakup, a medical diagnosis, a financial setback, or a family conflict that leaves you emotionally drained. You wake up each day hoping things will get easier, but instead you feel like you’re trying to breathe underwater.
Storms have a way of making you feel abandoned. But God has a way of showing up right in the middle of them.
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you…” — Isaiah 43:2
God doesn’t say if you go through deep waters — He says when. Storms are part of life, but so is His presence.
1. God Is Working Even When You Can’t See It
Think about your daily life:
-
You’re waiting for a callback from a job interview
-
You’re trying to stretch groceries until payday
-
You’re praying for a child who’s drifting
-
You’re holding back tears on your lunch break
You may not see movement, but God is not inactive. He’s working behind the scenes in ways you can’t yet measure.
2. God Strengthens You One Day at a Time
You don’t need strength for next week — you need strength for today. And God gives it in daily portions.
Just like manna in the wilderness, His help arrives exactly when you need it.
3. God Uses Storms to Reveal What’s Unshakeable
Storms strip away what’s temporary so you can see what’s eternal:
-
His love
-
His faithfulness
-
His protection
-
His purpose
Try this today:
Take one situation that feels overwhelming and say, “God, I trust You with this storm.”
Prayer:
Lord, meet me in the middle of what I’m facing. Strengthen me, steady me, and remind me that I’m not alone. Amen.
Reflection Question:
Where do you need God’s peace the most right now?
