How to Host a Family Worship Night

A family worship night is a special evening set aside to praise God together at home. It doesn't need a stage, a band, or polished singing. It just needs a family willing to gather, sing, learn, pray, and enjoy being together in God's presence.

Why worship together?

Colossians 3:16: "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."

Psalm 100:1–2: "Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing."

"Joyful noise" means you don't have to sing well. You just have to sing!

A simple 5-part plan (about 30 minutes)

1. Worship songs (5–10 minutes). Pick two or three favorites. Let kids choose. Add shakers, dancing, or instruments.

2. Bible story (5 minutes). Read a short story and talk about what it shows about God.

3. Creative response (10 minutes). Draw the story, act it out, build it with blocks, or make a craft.

4. Prayer (5 minutes). Thank God, share requests, and pray for each other.

5. Celebration snack. End with a special treat.

Theme ideas

  • Creation night: Genesis 1, nature crafts, and a "God made it" snack board.
  • Light of the world: John 8:12, with candles (adult-supervised) or flashlights.
  • Thankfulness night: Psalm 100, with a gratitude poster.
  • Brave night: David and Goliath, plus a "giants we face" prayer time.
  • Jesus loves kids: Mark 10:13–16, with blessings spoken over each child.

Make it special

  • Wear pajamas. Our kids' Christian pajamas make it feel like an event.
  • Light a candle for a calm, cozy atmosphere.
  • Turn off phones and screens.
  • Let a different family member "host" each time.
  • Do it monthly, or weekly if your family loves it.

A worship night prayer

Lord, thank You for our family. We praise You together tonight. Fill our home with Your presence and our hearts with joy. Let worship become a part of who we are. Amen.
