You Are Forgiven: Living Free From Guilt
You've confessed your sin. You believe Jesus died for you. And yet, deep down, you still feel guilty, like God tolerates you but is still a little disappointed. Like you're forgiven on paper but living on probation.
If that's you, it's time to see just how complete God's forgiveness really is.
Every sin, nailed to the cross
Colossians 2:13–14: "And you, being dead in your sins… hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us… nailing it to his cross."
"The handwriting… against us" is like a written record of debt. God didn't just reduce the balance. He blotted it out and nailed it to the cross. All trespasses. Not most. Not the small ones. All.
Remembered no more
Hebrews 8:12: "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more."
God, who knows everything, chooses not to hold your forgiven sins against you. He doesn't bring them up. He doesn't keep a file.
Blessed, not barely tolerated
Psalm 32:1: "Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered."
Forgiveness doesn't leave you as a second-class believer. It makes you blessed.
The woman who was forgiven much
In Luke 7, a woman known for her sinful life came to Jesus, weeping at His feet and anointing them with perfume. Religious leaders were appalled. Jesus said:
Luke 7:47–48: "Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much… And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven."
He didn't say, "Your sins are forgiven, but don't forget what you did." He sent her away in peace. Her many sins were met with even greater grace, and she responded with great love.
Why guilt lingers
- Confusing feelings with facts. You may feel guilty even when you're forgiven.
- The enemy's accusations. Satan is called "the accuser" (Revelation 12:10). He loves reminding you of forgiven sin.
- Unaddressed consequences. Sometimes guilt points to something you still need to make right with someone.
Living forgiven
- Agree with God. When He says forgiven, say "forgiven" too.
- Answer accusation with Scripture. Colossians 2:14 is a great reply.
- Make amends where possible, then let it go.
- Respond with love, like the woman in Luke 7.

A prayer
Lord, thank You that my sins are nailed to the cross and remembered no more. Help me stop living like I'm still on probation. When guilt accuses me, remind me what You've done. I'm forgiven, and I'm blessed. Let my life overflow with love in response. Amen.
