Christmas Prayers for Your Family
Christmas is a celebration of God's greatest gift: Jesus. In the joy, busyness, and togetherness of the season, prayer keeps our hearts focused on Him. Here are prayers for Christmas Eve, Christmas morning, and Christmas dinner, plus prayers for those who find this season hard.
Luke 2:11: "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."
A Christmas Eve prayer
Lord, tonight we remember the night You came to us as a baby in a manger. Thank You for keeping Your promise. Quiet our hearts so we can worship like the shepherds did. Fill our home with Your peace. Amen.
Christmas morning, before the gifts
Father, before we open a single present, we thank You for the greatest gift of all: Jesus. Help us receive every gift today with gratitude, and give generously in return. Let our home be full of joy and love. Amen.
Idea: Read Luke 2:1–20 together before opening presents.
A Christmas dinner blessing
Lord, thank You for this meal, this family, and this day. Thank You for sending Your Son to be Immanuel, God with us. Bless our time together and those who couldn't be here. In Jesus' name, amen.
For those spending Christmas alone
Lord, be close to everyone spending Christmas alone this year: the widowed, the far-from-home, the lonely, and those working today. Let them know they are not forgotten. Show us who to invite and how to love them. Amen.
When Christmas is hard
Father, this Christmas doesn't feel merry. I'm grieving, struggling, or tired. Thank You that Jesus came into a hurting world, not a perfect one. Be my peace and my hope today. Amen.
A prayer for the world
Prince of Peace, bring Your peace to a hurting world. Comfort those in war, poverty, and sickness. Let the good news of great joy reach every heart. Amen.
