Thanksgiving Prayers for Your Table and Your Heart

Thanksgiving is a day to pause and thank God together. Here are short, heartfelt prayers you can read before the meal, pray with your kids, or hold in your heart if this year is hard.

Psalm 107:1: "O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever."

A short blessing before the meal

Lord, thank You for this food, for the hands that prepared it, and for everyone gathered around this table. Thank You for Your goodness to us this year. Bless this meal and our time together. In Jesus' name, amen.

A longer Thanksgiving prayer

Father, we come with grateful hearts. Thank You for life, for family and friends, for homes and food, and for Your faithfulness through every season this year, the easy ones and the hard ones. Thank You most of all for Jesus. Help us carry this gratitude into every day. Amen.

A prayer with kids

Thank You, God, for our food. Thank You for our family. Thank You for our home, our friends, and for loving us. Amen.

Idea: have each child add one thing they're thankful for.

When you're grieving this Thanksgiving

Lord, there's an empty seat at our table this year. Thank You for the years we shared with [name]. Comfort everyone who's missing them. Help us hold gratitude and grief together. Amen.

For those without a table

Lord, we remember those who are hungry, lonely, sick, or far from home today. Provide for them, comfort them, and show us how to help. Amen.

A gratitude round

Before the meal, go around the table and finish this sentence: "This year, I saw God's goodness when…"
