Will My Pet Be in Heaven? What the Bible Says (and Doesn’t)
It’s one of the most common questions grieving pet owners ask: Will I see my dog, cat or horse again in heaven? If you’re asking with tears in your eyes, you’re not being silly. You loved a creature God made, and that love was good.
The honest answer
The Bible doesn’t give a direct, detailed answer about whether individual pets will be in heaven. Sincere, Bible-believing Christians come to different conclusions. Some believe God will restore the animals we loved. Others believe the new creation will include animals, but not necessarily the same ones. Many simply trust the question to God. It’s okay to hold your hope humbly.
What Scripture does show
- God made animals and called them good (Genesis 1:25).
- God cares for animals: “Thou preservest man and beast” (Psalm 36:6), and not one sparrow falls without the Father (Matthew 10:29).
- God made a covenant with the animals too after the flood (Genesis 9:9–10).
- The new creation includes animals: “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb” (Isaiah 11:6).
- All creation will be set free: “The creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption” (Romans 8:21).
- Every creature praises God in John’s vision of heaven (Revelation 5:13).
What we can be sure of
God is good, far kinder than we are. He will wipe away every tear (Revelation 21:4). Whatever heaven holds, you will not be disappointed, and you will not be missing anything you need for joy.
A prayer
“Lord, I don’t know everything about heaven, but I know You are good. I trust my sweet friend, and my heart, to You. Amen.”
