How do I follow Jesus?
Read this with a grown-up you trust. Tap the speaker on any part to hear it.
1God made you, and He loves you
Before you were born, God knew you. He made you on purpose, and He loves you more than anyone ever could.
“God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son.”John 3:16
2Everybody does wrong things
Lying, being mean, not listening. The Bible calls this sin. Everybody sins, grown-ups too. Sin gets in the way of our friendship with God, and we can’t fix it by ourselves.
“Everyone has sinned and fallen short of God’s glory.”Romans 3:23
3Jesus came to fix it
Jesus is God’s Son. He never sinned, not even once. He died on the cross to take the punishment for our sins. Three days later He came back to life! Now He offers to forgive us and be our forever friend.
“Christ died for our sins… He was raised on the third day.”1 Corinthians 15:3–4
4You can say yes to Jesus
Saying yes to Jesus means: telling God you’re sorry for your sins, believing Jesus died and rose again for you, and choosing to follow Him as your leader for the rest of your life.
“If you say with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”Romans 10:9
If you want to, you can pray something like this. The exact words don’t matter. God listens to your heart.
Not ready yet? That’s okay. God isn’t in a hurry, and it’s good to ask questions. Keep talking to Him and to your grown-ups.
5I said yes! What now?
🎉 Tell a grown-up who loves Jesus. They’ll want to celebrate with you!
📖 Read a little of the Bible. The book of Mark is a great place to start.
🙏 Talk to God every day. That’s what praying is.
⛪ Go to church and make friends who love Jesus too.
💧 Ask your pastor about baptism. Different churches do it at different ages.
For grown-ups
- Let your child use their own words, and never pressure. A real yes can’t be rushed.
- Kids often say yes more than once as they grow in understanding. That’s normal.
- Celebrate, write down the date, and talk with your pastor about next steps, including baptism, which churches handle differently.
- Still have questions yourself? Start at Who Is Jesus?
