“Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?” — Matthew 18:33
Forgive Us Our Debts
You’ve been forgiven a debt you could never pay. Now the IOUs are coming in.
In Matthew 18 a servant is forgiven a debt worth billions. He walks out, finds a guy who owes him lunch money, and starts choking him. 😳 Jesus told that story so we’d see ourselves in it. Your debt is already stamped PAID. Now people who owe you start showing up with IOUs: the friend who ghosted, the parent who missed everything, the one who still isn’t safe. What will you do with each one? (Spoiler: forgiving doesn’t mean pretending it didn’t happen, and it doesn’t mean handing out your house key.)
How it works: Six IOUs. For each one: ✂️ cancel the debt, 🧱 forgive and keep a boundary, 🙏 “not yet, but I’m bringing it to Jesus,” or 📮 collect. Every IOU you hold adds a chain. At the end, see your ledger.
Built on Matthew 18:21–35, Matthew 6:12, Ephesians 4:32, Romans 12:18, Genesis 50:19–21 and 1 John 1:9. Forgiveness is a process, not a switch. If you’re dealing with harm or abuse, please talk with a counselor or trusted person.
