How to help a single parent
- Offer one specific thing: a ride, a meal, an hour.
- Sit with the kids so they can go to a small group.
- Remember birthdays, holidays and hard dates.
- Help with a car or home repair.
- Ask about them, not just the kids.
“Bear ye one another’s burdens.” Galatians 6:2

For my church family
I’m raising my children on my own, and I want us to stay connected. Childcare during groups, a check-in, or a seat beside us on Sunday makes a real difference. Thank you for being our family.
“Pure religion… is this, To visit the fatherless and widows.” James 1:27

Four-week group guide
For single parent groups, moms’ or dads’ groups, or two friends. About 45–60 minutes. Provide childcare and dinner if you can. Let anyone pass on any question.
Week 1 · Seen
Read: Genesis 21:14–19
- When do you feel most unseen as a parent?
- God heard the boy and showed Hagar a well. Where might God be showing you a well you haven’t noticed?
- What’s one thing about your week no one knows?
Practice: Pray for each person by name and for each of their children.
Week 2 · Not lesser
Read: 2 Timothy 1:5; Psalm 68:5–6
- What guilt do you carry about your family’s situation?
- What does Timothy’s story say about families like ours?
- Which of your guilt is real wrong to confess, and which is false guilt to release?
Practice: Write one thing God says about your children, and say it to them this week.
Week 3 · Carried
Read: James 1:27; Galatians 6:2; 1 Kings 17:8–16
- What’s hardest about asking for help?
- Where do you most need practical help right now?
- How could this group help one another this month?
Practice: Each person names one specific need. Others offer what they can.
Week 4 · Grace and hope
Read: Lamentations 3:22–26; Hebrews 13:5
- Where do you need God’s new mercy this week?
- How have you seen God take care of your family?
- What’s one hope you have for your children’s faith?
Practice: Pray Numbers 6:24–26 over one another and over every child.
