With Every Breath: A Testimony of Survival, Surrender, and the Desire to Make God Proud

There comes a moment in every believer’s life when survival turns into surrender. When you look back over everything you’ve endured—the heartbreaks, the disappointments, the betrayals, the seasons you didn’t think you’d make it through—and you realize the only reason you’re still standing is because God held you together.

I’ve lived through enough to know that strength didn’t come from me. Wisdom didn’t come from me. Survival didn’t come from me. Grace carried me. Mercy covered me. God sustained me.

And now, with every breath in my body, I just want to make Him proud.

When Life Breaks You, God Builds You

There were seasons when I thought I was forgotten. Times when I questioned if God still saw me. But Scripture reminds us:

“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles.” — Psalm 34:17

I didn’t always feel delivered, but I was. I didn’t always feel held, but I was. I didn’t always feel strong, but God was strong for me.

Looking back, I see His fingerprints on every chapter—especially the painful ones.

The Shift: From Surviving to Surrendering

Somewhere along the journey, something in me changed. Not because life got easier, but because God became clearer.

I realized that everything I survived wasn’t just for my testimony—it was for my transformation.

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.” — Proverbs 3:6

I used to want success. I used to want validation. I used to want to prove myself.

Now? I just want to walk in a way that reflects His goodness. I want my life to echo gratitude. I want my choices to honor Him. I want my character to represent Him well.

I want to make God proud.

Companion Prayer: “Lord, Help Me Live a Life That Makes You Proud”

Father, I come before You with a grateful heart. Thank You for carrying me through every season — the ones that broke me, the ones that shaped me, and the ones that taught me who You are. When I look back over my life, I see Your hand in every chapter, even the ones I didn’t understand at the time.

Lord, with every breath in me, I want to honor You. I want my life to reflect Your goodness, Your mercy, and Your faithfulness. Strengthen me to walk in obedience, to choose what pleases You, and to live with a heart that seeks You first.

Where I am weak, be my strength. Where I am unsure, be my guide. Where I am healing, be my comfort. Help me to live a life that brings You joy — not out of pressure, but out of love for the One who never gave up on me.

Your Word says, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10). Do that work in me daily. Shape my thoughts, my actions, my desires, and my character so that everything I do points back to You.

Thank You for loving me, redeeming me, and giving me purpose. May my life be a testimony of Your grace. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Desire That Changed Everything

This desire didn’t come from perfection—it came from brokenness. It came from realizing how many times God rescued me from things I didn’t even know were trying to destroy me.

It came from understanding that:

“We love because He first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19

God loved me through my mistakes. God loved me through my wandering. God loved me through my healing. God loved me through my becoming.

And now, I want my life to love Him back.

Every Breath Is Worship

When you’ve lived through enough, you stop taking breath for granted. You stop taking peace for granted. You stop taking God’s presence for granted.

Every breath becomes worship. Every step becomes gratitude. Every day becomes purpose.

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” — Psalm 150:6

I’m not perfect. I don’t have it all together. But I’m trying—every day—to live in a way that reflects the God who never gave up on me.

 Final Encouragement

If you’ve lived through a lot… If you’ve survived things that should have broken you… If you’re still healing, still growing, still learning…

You’re not behind. You’re not disqualified. You’re not forgotten.

You’re being shaped. You’re being refined. You’re being prepared.

And God is proud of you already.
