“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families.”Psalm 68:5–6

Still Held

For the divorced and the widowed: when the marriage ends, God doesn’t.

You set one less plate. You check “single” or “widowed” on a form and it takes your breath away. Maybe you feel like the church doesn’t know where to seat you anymore. Whether your marriage ended in a hospital room or a courtroom, you’re grieving a life you thought you’d have. God has a long history with people in exactly your place, and He has never once looked away from them.

No judgment here. However your marriage ended, and whatever role you played in it, you’re welcome. If you left an unsafe marriage, you did not fail your vows; see The Vow, Unpacked.
