What Is a Covenant?
The word that ties the whole Bible together. (No fine print. Okay, a little fine print.)
The Bible can feel like 66 random books. It’s actually one story, held together by a word we rarely use: covenant. A covenant isn’t a contract. It’s a promise that binds people together for life, and God keeps making them, from Noah’s rainbow all the way to the cup Jesus held at the Last Supper.
“This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”Jesus, Luke 22:20
Built on Genesis 9, 12, 15 and 17, Exodus 19–24, 2 Samuel 7, Jeremiah 31:31–34, Luke 22:20, Hebrews 8 and 2 Timothy 2:13. Scripture quoted from the World English Bible (public domain).
