Faith Hub · Death & the End Times

Ready, Not Rattled

What the Bible actually says about death, the return of Jesus, and how not to get played by anyone who claims to know the day.

“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”Matthew 24:36

Three promises about this page. It names no dates. It takes no side on the debates Christians have had for centuries (rapture timing, the millennium, the tribulation). And it names no current leader, product, or event as “the antichrist” or “the mark.” Everything here is tied to a verse you can read yourself. The goal is a steady heart and a clear head, because fear is exactly what deceivers use.

What Jesus actually said

Before Jesus said anything about signs, He said “take heed that no man deceive you.” After every sign, He came back to one instruction: watch, and be faithful. Matthew 24 and 25, in order.

The pattern

Count it: in Matthew 24 Jesus warns about deception four times (verses 4, 5, 11, 24) and tells you to watch or be ready three times (42, 44, 50). He gives a date zero times. Whatever a teacher spends the most time on, Jesus spent the most time on not being fooled and staying faithful.

The Red Flag Detector

Twelve claims you will hear, in a sermon, a video, or a group chat. Decide: does it check out, does it need testing, or is it a red flag? Then see what Scripture says.

Guess the Year

Every one of these predictions came from sincere, confident people. Some of their followers sold homes, quit jobs, or stopped planning for their kids’ futures. Guess the year, then read what happened.

What happens when I die?

Plain answers from what Scripture says plainly. Where the Bible is quiet, this page is too.

Where Christians agree, and where we differ

Faithful, Bible-believing Christians have read the same chapters for two thousand years and landed in different places on the timing. That is not a crisis. It is a reason for humility. Here is what is settled, and what is not.

Held by all Christians Where
Jesus will return, visibly and bodily Acts 1:11; Matthew 24:27; Revelation 1:7
No one knows the day or the hour Matthew 24:36; Acts 1:7
The dead will be raised 1 Corinthians 15; John 5:28-29
Everyone will stand before God Hebrews 9:27; 2 Corinthians 5:10
A new heaven and a new earth, and God with His people forever Revelation 21:1-4
We are to be ready, watchful, and faithful Matthew 24:42-46; 1 Thessalonians 5:6
We are not to be deceived or afraid Matthew 24:4; 2 Timothy 1:7; 1 Thessalonians 4:18
Debated among Christians for centuries The honest status
When the rapture happens relative to the tribulation (before, during, after, or not a separate event) Sincere scholars disagree. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 describes the gathering; the timing is interpreted differently.
What the thousand years of Revelation 20 means (literal, symbolic, before or after Christ’s return) Three major views, all held by serious believers across church history.
How much of Matthew 24 and Revelation was fulfilled in the first century vs. still future Debated. Both sides hold the same essentials above.
Who or what the antichrist, the beast, and the mark are Every generation has guessed. Every guess so far has been wrong. 1 John 2:18 says many antichrists had already come in John’s day.

How to hold this

If your church teaches one view, learn it well and honor it. Just notice when a teaching moves from “here’s how we read it” to “the date is” or “the person is” or “do this drastic thing now.” That’s the line. On this side of it: Christian liberty. On the other side: Matthew 24:36.

“It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power… and ye shall be witnesses unto me.”Acts 1:7-8

Notice: the disciples asked “when?” and Jesus answered with “go be witnesses.” He redirected the question to the mission. He still does.

The only prep Jesus asked for

No bunker. No stockpile. No quitting your job. Every parable Jesus told about His return ends with the same thing: be found faithful. Tap what you’re doing. Saved on this device.

“Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.”Matthew 24:46

If you’re afraid

Fear about the end usually comes from a picture of God as a trap-setter. The Bible’s picture is a Father who delays so more people can come home (2 Peter 3:9), a Savior who said “Let not your heart be troubled” in the same breath as “I will come again” (John 14:1-3), and an instruction to use these very words to comfort each other, not scare each other.

“Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”1 Thessalonians 4:18
“And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”Luke 21:28

Look up, Jesus said. Not look around in panic. Not look at a chart. Up.
