Summer Faith for Families: Ideas for a God-Centered Summer
Summer brings longer days, a slower pace, and more family time. It's a perfect season to grow in faith together, without it feeling like homework.
Psalm 74:17: "Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter."
Summer faith ideas
1. Summer Scripture challenge. Read a Gospel together, or memorize one verse a week. Celebrate with an ice cream party at the end.
2. Vacation Bible School. Sign kids up, or volunteer as a family.
3. Creation adventures. Hike, visit the beach, or stargaze, and read Psalm 19 or Psalm 104 together.
4. Serve together. Pick a summer service project: a lemonade stand for charity, yard work for a neighbor, or helping at a food bank.
5. Library Bible. Pick out Bible storybooks or Christian books at the library.
6. Backyard worship night. Sing under the stars, roast marshmallows, and pray together.
7. Camping devotions. Read about Jesus by the Sea of Galilee around the campfire.
8. Slow Sundays. Church, then a long lunch and a nap. Rest is a gift.
9. Pen-pal prayers. Write to grandparents or missionaries.
10. Gratitude walks. Evening walks naming things you're thankful for.
Keep a rhythm
Summer can be unstructured, which is part of its joy. Keep a few simple anchors: mealtime prayers, bedtime blessings, and church on Sundays when you can.
Summer gear with a message
Head to the pool or beach with our Christian beach towels, stay hydrated with Christian water bottles, and step out in Christian sandals and kids' slides.
A summer prayer
Lord, thank You for summer: sunshine, rest, and time together. Help our family grow closer to You and to each other. Protect us as we travel and play. Let this be a season of joy and faith. Amen.
